History of Unity Christ Church of San Francisco
Unity Christ Church is a dynamic spiritual center,
dedicated to being a force for good in the lives
of individuals, the community, and the world.
Since its founding in 1946 by Reverend Ethel Higgins, Unity Christ Church of San Francisco has served as a powerful spiritual center and a dedicated advocate for good in the lives of individuals, the community, and the world. Unity Christ Church was incorporated in 1940 and held its earliest meetings at the Golden Gate Commandry at 133 Geary Boulevard and the Western Women's Club at 111 O'Farrell Street in San Francisco.
In 1956, the church moved to its current location at 2690 Ocean Avenue. Over the years, the congregation has been guided by several dedicated leaders, including Reverend David McClure, Reverend Gwen Normant, Reverend Shay St. John, Reverend Richard Barnes, Reverend Sharon Connors, Reverend Charlotte Brown and Reverend Karl Aull.
The Sunday service includes a guided meditation during which attendees are able to let go of their worries and thoughts and get themselves centered, as well as a weekly message from the minister. A social fellowship in the Fillmore Room is enjoyed after the services. Unity is a thriving and active community, with over two-thirds of our attendees involved in the many rewarding Love in Action volunteer activities. Unity Christ Church is supported solely by love offerings and tithes from its members and friends.
